MoPED Hosts Consultations on Development Cooperation between Sierra Leone and Germany

31 October 2024
The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development (MoPED) today hosted consultations alongside MDAs, NGOs and the private sector to advance development cooperation between Sierra Leone and the Federal Republic of Germany. These discussions align with Sierra Leone’s Medium-Term National Development Plan (MTNDP) 2024-2030.

Following intergovernmental negotiations held on 13-14 November 2023, both nations signed a Protocol of Bilateral Cooperation, securing 37 million euros to support key areas including sustainable economic development, vocational training and employment, health, social protection, population policy, and private-sector and municipal cooperation. This protocol mandates annual consultations to review progress, ensuring that the cooperation remains aligned with Sierra Leone’s evolving development priorities.

The ongoing consultations offer an essential platform to evaluate the German Cooperation Programme’s alignment with national priorities, assess the impact of current projects, and identify critical areas where German support can add value. Key areas for potential collaboration, highlighted during pre-consultation technical meetings, will be explored to address vital sectoral needs.

The German delegation, led by Ms. Sabine Lindemann from the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), joins Sierra Leone’s Minister of Planning and Economic Development, Hon. Kenyeh Barlay, in Freetown for these discussions.

Minister Barlay encourages all participants to view this consultation as a valuable opportunity to showcase Sierra Leone’s development needs, guiding impactful and strategic cooperation with Germany.
