On Monday, Sierra Leone’s Ministry of Planning and Economic Development (MoPED) welcomed the new European Union (EU) Ambassador to Sierra Leone, Jacek Jankowski, for discussions centered on strengthening development cooperation and open dialogue to advance shared interests and values.
In welcoming Ambassador Jankowski, Minister Barlay expressed gratitude for his visit, extending a warm welcome to both the Ministry and Sierra Leone. The Minister wished the Ambassador a successful tenure and a pleasant stay in the country.
Ambassador Jankowski, in response, thanked Minister Barlay and his team for their hospitality, reaffirming the EU’s commitment to Sierra Leone. He pledged to build on the strong foundation established by his predecessor, advancing the longstanding EU-Sierra Leone partnership.
Discussions covered several critical topics, including the upcoming EU-Sierra Leone Annual Political Dialogue, scheduled for December 10, 2024, budget support and ongoing EU-supported projects, such as the Bandajuma-Jendenma Road commissioning. The meeting also underscored Sierra Leone’s important role at the United Nations Security Council, alongside plans to celebrate the various EU-backed development initiatives contributing to Sierra Leone’s progress.
This collaborative engagement signifies the EU’s enduring commitment to support Sierra Leone’s development journey across multiple sectors, as the nation continues to foster its position on the global stage.
