Director of NGO Affairs Facilitates Sector Coordination Strengthening in Bo District

Bo District Council, 27th August 2024 — The Director of NGO Affairs at the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development (MoPED), Eric Massally, led a critical discussion today focused on enhancing sectoral coordination within Bo District. The meeting, which brought together key stakeholders, was aimed at addressing the ongoing challenges in ensuring effective coordination among various sectors at the district level.

In his opening remarks, Director Eric Massally expressed his commitment to improving coordination, emphasizing its importance in the optimal use of resources for national development. “I am happy to be here to continue the conversation about coordination,” Massally stated. “As a country, we must make good use of our resources, and this requires us to discuss and strengthen our coordination efforts at every level.”

Despite the progress made, Massally highlighted the existing gaps in sectoral coordination, stressing the need for a more effective approach. “There is still a gap in sectoral coordination,” he noted. “The various sectors have a sacred responsibility to ensure coordination is done right at this level. Today, we are here to discuss how we can strengthen sectoral coordination to better serve our communities.”

The meeting focused on the importance of sectoral platforms that specifically address issues at the sector level. Massally acknowledged that Bo District Council has consistently informed MoPED about the ineffectiveness of the current sectoral platform, underlining the necessity of today’s discussion. “The sectoral platform should specifically address the issues at the sector level,” he said. “We need to strengthen these platforms and get the heads of sectors to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to formalize their commitment.”

Hindowa Kosseh, the Chairman of Bo District Council, expressed his appreciation for the Ministry’s efforts and reaffirmed the council’s commitment to the process. “We are pleased with the continued support from MoPED in strengthening sectoral coordination,” Kosseh said. “The council remains unwavering in its commitment to this process, and we emphasize the need for regular meetings to ensure that we stay on track.”

The Sector Lead from the Ministry of Health also underscored the importance of the initiative, particularly in the context of healthcare delivery. “Effective coordination is crucial for the success of our healthcare initiatives,” the Sector Lead remarked. “By strengthening sectoral coordination, we can ensure that our efforts are aligned and that we are providing the best possible services to the people of Bo District.”

The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment from all participants to enhance sectoral coordination, with a clear plan to establish more regular meetings and formal agreements to guide future efforts.
