Deputy Planning Minister Stresses Alignment of District Plans with National Development Priorities at DDCC Bi-Monthly Meetings
Portloko, Sierra Leone – June 4-5, 2024: The Deputy Minister of Planning and Economic Development, Rev. Dr. Jonathan Titus-Williams, emphasized the importance of synchronizing District Development Plans with the National Development Plan at the recent District Development Coordination Committee (DDCC) Bi-Monthly meetings.
Held simultaneously in Portloko, Moyamba, Bo, Falaba, Kambia, and Bonthe Districts, Dr. Titus-Williams urged Councils to prioritize the “Big Five Strategic Game Changers,” an initiative supported by the World Bank’s Accountable Governance for Basic Service Delivery project.
The meetings, held on June 4-5, 2024, aimed to enhance district development coordination and ensure transparency and accountability in service delivery. They were hosted in the respective district councils with supervisory support from the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development (MoPED).
In Portloko District, Dr. Titus-Williams underscored the need for sustainability and unified development efforts. The event saw active participation from various stakeholders, including the District Council Chairman, UNICEF, Civil Society Organizations, and local authorities.
During his address, Dr. Titus-Williams highlighted MoPED’s role in preparing the national plan and the importance of aligning district plans with national priorities. He also discussed the DDCC’s role in reporting on plan implementation and service delivery.
This meeting, the first of its kind in 2024, was chaired by Sheku Sakoh, with the Chiefdom Administrator, Bakeloko Chiefdom speaker, and other key development stakeholders in attendance. Key issues discussed included:
Similar engagements took place in Moyamba, Falaba, Bonthe, Kambia, Bo, and Western Area Rural District Councils. The team in Bonthe was headed by Deputy Development Secretary Mr. Usman Cherry Conteh, and the Kambia team was led by Alpha K. Bangura, Director of the Public Investment Management Directorate.
