Biography

Mrs. M’balu Ajiratu Kamara joined the Sierra Leone Civil Service in 1995 and served in the Rural Development Directorate. The Rural Development Directorate is an integral part of the Ministry of Planning & Economic Development. Mrs. Kamara holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Fourth Bay College and a Master of Science in Rural Development from Njala University. She has availed her self to several professional trainings and participated in local and international seminars.

At the 68 th Session on the Commission of the Status of Women held in New York, Mrs. Kamara presented on behalf of the Sierra Leone delegation “Mainstreaming Gender in the Big Five Game changers”.

M’balu provided Technical Assistant to Local Councils through the Decentralization Secretariat during which she played a vital role in supporting institutional reform and capacity building. Mrs. Kamara has over the years garnered experience in rural development work, working with local level authorities and grassroot institutions, local level planning, community-based monitoring, grievance redress mechanism and promoting leadership
accountability for results.

Mrs. Kamara’s diverse experience and interactions with local level authorities at district, chiefdom and community levels has strategically positioned her to play a national coordinating role in strengthening district development coordination. M’balu has contributed immensely for the re-activation and strengthening of District development Coordination Committees (DDCC) across the country. Through her astute leadership and ability to work as a team member DDCCs have now been institutionalized as permanent coordination structure anchored at
Local Council.

Mrs. M’balu is currently the substantive Deputy Director of the Rural Development Directorate in the Ministry of Planning & Economic Development.
