Consistent with Government’s vision of ensuring improved living conditions for all Sierra Leoneans, and in response to Cabinet directives, the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development (MoPED) with support from NGOs and other stakeholders is solely responsible to carry out the registration of all NGOs operating in Sierra Leone and will carry out the undermentioned responsibilities:
- Compile the following documents for NGO Registration:-
- Applications for registration (International and National)
- Applications for renewal (International and National)
- Annual status report of NGO Unit
- Monthly details of NGO interventions by sector
- Other issues relating to NGO operations
2. Educate and sensitized the general public about the NGO Registration Process
3. Do site visits to applicants’ premises and witness randomly selected activities of field operations without notice to the NGO.
4. Organise quarterly meetings of Inter-Agency and Sectoral Standing Committees to review activities of NGOs and discuss plans for future programmes.
5. Organise annual workshop for NGO Coordinators in sector Ministries;
6. Organize monthly meetings of NGOs Desk officers in the various sectoral ministries to discuss relevant issues and disseminate findings/information and plans
7. Collect and collate information on NGO activities including areas of operation, sector, target beneficiaries
8. Provide Database on all NGOs activities including areas of operation, sector and target beneficiaries
9. Ensure that NGOs submit annual reports for projects/programmes implemented.
10. Monitor and evaluate all NGO programmes in Sierra Leone.
11. Co-operate with sectoral Ministries, Councils and other relevant institutions in carrying out its monitoring and evaluating activities.
