The Deputy Minister of Planning and Economic Development, Rev. Dr. Jonathan Titus-Williams, is representing the Government of Sierra Leone at the Global South Media and Think Tank Forum: China–Africa Partnership Conference taking place in Johannesburg. The high-level forum, convened by Xinhua News Agency and strategic partners, brings together policymakers, researchers, and thought leaders from across Africa, Asia, and Latin America to discuss the evolving dynamics of China–Africa cooperation and the reform of global governance systems. In his statement on behalf of the Government and people of Sierra Leone, Rev. Dr. Titus-Williams reaffirmed the country’s commitment to inclusive development, South–South cooperation, and multilateral engagement. He highlighted Sierra Leone’s alignment with the Forum’s theme, “Reforming Global Governance: New Roles and Visions for China–Africa Cooperation.” He conveyed warm greetings from His Excellency, Brigadier (Rtd.) Dr. Julius Maada Bio, President of the Republic of Sierra Leone, and commended the Forum’s focus on promoting fairness, mutual respect, and balanced representation in the global order. Rev. Dr. Titus-Williams noted that reforming global governance goes beyond institutional adjustments — it requires equity, mutual respect, and shared responsibility across civilizations. He stated that the China–Africa partnership remains a strong model of South–South cooperation, rooted in solidarity, equality, and a shared aspiration for peace and sustainable development. Drawing from Sierra Leone’s national development priorities, he referenced the Medium-Term National Development Plan (2024–2030) as a blueprint for people-centered growth. He underscored the importance of the Feed Salone initiative, which seeks to strengthen food security, agricultural innovation, and community empowerment — areas where collaboration with China continues to yield meaningful outcomes. The Deputy Minister also stressed the critical role of education, technology, and youth empowerment in deepening mutual understanding and preparing citizens to participate actively in the global knowledge economy. He further expressed Sierra Leone’s support for the establishment of a China–Africa Civilizational Exchange and Cooperation Platform, envisioned to connect governments, academia, media, women, and youth in sustained dialogue and cooperation. In conclusion, Rev. Dr. Titus-Williams reiterated Sierra Leone’s steadfast commitment to strengthening China–Africa cooperation and contributing to the creation of a community of shared future for humankind, where the perspectives and aspirations of the Global South are fully acknowledged. “Our greatest strength as nations of the Global South lies not in our resources, but in the creativity, resilience, and wisdom of our people,” he said. “By investing in understanding and cooperation, we can build a world that values diversity as strength and partnership as destiny.” For more information, please contact Alfred Kabia at +232 79174027, or visit MoPED’s social media platforms: Twitter (@moped2025), Facebook, or the official website at www.moped.gov.sl.
